The History of Churchill Valley Country Club
Rich in tradition, Churchill Valley Country Club has maintained a reputation of excellence in the Pittsburgh area for over 75 years. The club was established by W.W. Martin and three of his friends in the early part of 1931 on 119 acres of what once were the Long family farm, for which Long Road in Penn Hills is named. The rustic setting straddles the Churchill / Penn Hills border.
The first white frame clubhouse was fashioned from an old farm log house, built in 1874. This clubhouse saw the club through its first few decades. It was in the years after World War II that the club took off. Most of the growth was attributed to nearby Westinghouse, which helped to build the member base and opened the door to host many corporate functions. In the mid-50's the old structure was replaced with the current brick and glass contemporary clubhouse, which has seen extensive renovations over the years.
The challenging Par 71 6,367 yard course has been a long time favorite of Western Pennsylvania golfers. Churchill Valley's signature hole is No. 13, a 160 yard par-3 nestled against a bubbling creek. It has been rated as one of Pennsylvania's Top 18 holes by Golf Magazine.
